About the Shoalhaven And Crookedhaven Estuaries - Gerroa Site

Shoalhaven and Crookedhaven are located close to Nowra, and are popular family holidaying areas. The Shoalhaven flood plain is one of the richest dairy areas in the State. The Shoalhaven and CrookedHaven are valuable recreational waterways and are highly utilised for fishing and boating.

The lower estuary provides habitat for large flocks of water birds. Comerong Island (between Shoalhaven and Crookhaven Heads) is a valuable ecological area comprised of mature mangrove stands, wading areas and valuable fish nursery and foraging grounds.

The estuaries are productive for fish, crustaceans and molluscs. The major seagrass species found within ShoalHaven and CrookedHaven areas are Zostera and Halophila.
