It is a resident of the Lake Macquarie area, shelters in hollow logs, rocky crevices and leaf litter.The Eastern Blue Tongue lizard is a large, handsome silvery-grey or brown lizard with dark brown bands across its back and tail and a black stripe between its eyes and shoulders. It is a non-venomous lizard which will hiss and/or stick out its blue tongue to deter any enemies. Blue-tongued Lizards eat snails, slugs, and insects as well as wildflowers, native fruit and berries. They are therefore invaluable in the garden as a natural pest control. |
