Meetings: 2nd Tuesday of each month to discuss current issues and resource needs.
Brief Aims of Group: To support, resource and educate the Landcare community throughout Lake Macquarie in partnership with the Council through The Landcare Resource Office (LRO). Support from local government, corporate sponsors and small business enables us to provide expert advice, on-ground support and resources for Landcare groups of any size. The LRO provides free administrative support, office equipment for community use, library resources, a training room and a meeting place for those interested in the environment. On-ground support to all registered Landcare groups is provided through grant application assistance, site inspections, vegetation advice and action plan development. Training, tool loan, plants, mulch and labour assistance from ‘The Green Team’ are also supplied at no cost to Landcarers.
Publications: The Urban Landcarer, a newsletter, is published monthly in hard copy, by email and is hosted on the LMCC website. A Folder of Onsite Landcare Skills is issued to all Landcare groups to assist with their project planning and implementation.
Activities: The LRO is a registered volunteer organisation and provides opportunities for volunteers to undertake a variety of tasks from fieldwork to office administration. The LRO coordinates rehabilitation and bush regeneration activities across the city to assist Landcare groups in managing their sites using current best practice techniques under the supervision of a qualified bush regenerator. Volunteers travel to the various sites by minibus which departs daily from the LRO. |
